Senior R&D Engineer (m/f/d) – Simulation & Modeling
As a Senior R&D Engineer in Simulation & Modeling, you bring deep expertise in computer-aided simulation – especially in modern, data-driven machine learning methods as well as in physics-based finite element techniques.
You will work with both machine learning and finite element methods (FEM) to analyze the performance of dental products, develop new product prototypes, and support their transfer into production. You will use both open-source tools and commercial simulation software to perform meaningful calculations. Evaluating results and documenting methods and workflows thoroughly are also key parts of your responsibilities. In addition, you will identify potential for product improvements and independently initiate feasibility studies.
You will also lead the development of a state-of-the-art Finite Element Analysis (FEA/FEM) platform to simulate orthodontic systems, integrating the latest algorithmic and modeling techniques. Your expertise in numerical methods and structural mechanics is central to the success of this project.
In the field of 3D printing, you will take on a key role: applying innovative finite element models and machine learning approaches to better understand and optimize additive manufacturing processes. Your work will make a significant contribution to the continued development and increased efficiency of manufacturing dental and orthodontic devices.
Your responsibilities as a Senior R&D Engineer (m/f/d) – Simulation & Modeling at Cubicure:
- Development of robust simulation methods for complex, hard-to-model conditions using advanced commercial FEA/FEM software
-
Collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Work with the software team to scale simulation models to large-scale computing environments
- Collaborate with the design team to integrate model-based components into product design
- Coordinate with the materials and process team to calibrate physical models
-
Partner with the clinical team to validate models through clinical studies
- Independent development and evaluation of new products and solutions, as well as optimization of existing products using simulations and physical testing
- Design, setup, and verification of test hardware, software, and systems
- Planning and execution of testing procedures for product evaluation (e.g. efficacy, reliability, verification, and validation)
- Participation in clinical pilot studies and further investigations in collaboration with the clinical team
- Documentation of all work in accordance with FDA/ISO standards, including test protocols and results
- Communication with internal and external experts to translate research findings into concrete product improvements
-
General engineering support within the research and development department
Your Skills and Expertise
- Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
- At least 8 years of programming experience with languages such as Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or Fortran
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in data processing and visualization using libraries like NumPy, pandas, matplotlib, or similar
- At least 5 years of practical experience in machine learning with classical or deep learning methods using frameworks such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or XGBoost
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in structural simulation (FEA/FEM) using software such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, or equivalent
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge in structural mechanics, biomechanics, material characterization, and finite element analysis
